Digital Housing Operations Pilot
Civitas Urban Laboratory is developing an applied research and pilot initiative exploring how practical digital operational systems can improve residential housing management for small and medium-scale housing providers.
The project investigates opportunities to modernize fragmented and largely manual housing workflows through accessible digital tools related to:
- access management,
- maintenance coordination,
- communication,
- tenant onboarding,
- and operational documentation.
Through real-world pilot implementation and workflow evaluation, the initiative aims to better understand how integrated digital operational systems may improve administrative efficiency, coordination, consistency, and user experience within residential housing environments.
The project focuses on practical implementation and operational outcomes rather than proprietary software development. Findings from the pilot will contribute implementation insights, operational evaluation, and public-facing research intended to support broader modernization efforts within Alberta’s housing sector.

Civitas Urban Laboratory is currently engaging partners across Alberta’s rental housing sector to participate in the study.
